Bike Week 2023 in Co. Westmeath proved to be a major success with hundreds of people and children getting on two wheels between May 13 and 21.
Westmeath Sports Partnership was delighted to have been able to provide support to the largest number of events held across the county ever at a whopping 31; a significant increase on the number of events which took place for Bike Week in 2022.
A total of 1875 people took part in Bike Week 2023, including a fantastic 817 children and 268 willing adults.
From cycling to school and bike safety talks to ‘Pedal Power,’ it was all happening in Co. Westmeath, with schools, communities and cycling clubs getting involved in hosting events.
We even ran our own special ‘Bike Week Challenge’ with two lucky ladies scooping a €25 voucher each for a bike shop of their choice after cycling over 600KM combined.
The key message of this year’s Bike Week was to just get out and enjoy life on two wheels, or maybe even three or four!
The focus was on communities and families enjoying cycling together and the many health benefits cycling brings, both physically and mentally.
It was marvellous to see so many people involved, and we hope to see greater numbers enjoying cycling for recreation and as part of their physical activity routine in the weeks’ and months ahead after such a major success this year.
We also want to say a special thank you to everyone who organised and facilitated events, including school, teachers, pupils, community groups, parents, An Garda Siochana, the National Transport Authority, RSA and various cycling clubs and officials.
Below you will find just a selection of some of the events which took place across Co. Westmeath which were supported by Westmeath Sports Partnership.
