This four-week introductory kayaking course for Lads & Dads will take place in Lough Owel, Mullingar from 7.00pm – 9.00pm on Thursdays, August 22nd, 29th, September 5th, 12th
This course is for males aged 18+ who want to learn kayaking and paddle skills in a relaxed, social and fun environment. The aim is for participants to be introduced to a new water-based activity within the beautiful outdoors, while also gaining a Canoe Ireland Level One kayaking skills certification.
Cost of registration is €50 but participants will be refunded €5 per session attended.
(Refunded amounts will be distributed via the same method of payment at the conclusion of the programme. These courses have extremely high demand so this is to encourage those who are lucky enough to get a place, to turn up the sessions).
You do not need to be a strong swimmer to participate in this course but you should feel comfortable in water with a buoyancy aid.
As there will be limited changing facilities, please wear swimwear under clothing on arrival. Wetsuits are available to use but if you have your own you can use this. All equipment provided including kayaks, buoyancy aids, helmets, paddles etc. Please ensure you bring old footwear to wear into the water, and a towel, a drink and sun cream if sunny.
Meeting point will be the Car Park at Lough Owel beside Mullingar Sailing Club and all sessions will take place here, unless notified otherwise by the instructor or Westmeath Sports Partnership.
This course is kindly funded and supported by Healthy Ireland and Healthy Westmeath. Participants will be required to complete a short pre and post programme questionnaire to take part in this course.
